Since it’s now officially November, we wanted to get a head start on the season of gratefulness. Over the past year, we have accomplished so much because of the generous support of our community, partners, donors and volunteers. From breaking ground on the renovations at Austin’s first park space – Republic Square – to adding a Fall iteration of It’s My Park Day to satisfy the groundswell of support the Spring version has received, 2016 has been a truly record-breaking year (look no further than Party for the Parks 2016)! This year, we’re thankful for so much, and below are a few highlights.
3) Austin’s Natural Beauty
From Onion Creek to Lady Bird Lake, NW District to Dove Springs, Austin has hundreds of parks, trails and green spaces to explore and preserve. With over 29,000 acres, there’s always a new playground to visit, trail to hike and creek to paddle. Check out our parks database for some inspiration!
2) Austin’s Collaborative Spirit
APF thrives on partnerships. We rely on park adopters to maintain and advocate for their parks. We rely on the Parks & Recreation Department to help identify the areas of greatest need. We rely on our fellow non-profits and conservancies to help us raise awareness and enthusiasm for our collective work. Each of these partnerships requires dedication, perseverance and hard work – but the end result is always worth it. These partnerships help us sustain long-term projects and gain short-term victories.
Our work would not be possible without you. Your generous donations of time, talent and treasure; your unyielding support for our projects and programs; and your love for Austin’s parks, trails and green spaces are what keep us moving forward. This year, and every year, we’re thankful for you.
Want to show your gratitude this season? Join us on #GivingTuesday – as we kick off a special sustaining gift program that will allow you to keep our parks evergreen! We’re also participating in REI’s #OptOutside campaign again this year, and will be closed on Black Friday. Join us in showing gratitude for Austin’s parks and you might just win some cool gear – check out this post for details! In the meantime, tell us what you’re grateful for in the comments below, and we’ll see you in the parks.
