COVERT PARK: Mount Bonnell (elevation 785 ft above sea level) is the name given in the 1830s to a peak on the ridge line overlooking the Colorado River in Austin Texas. A hundred years later, that land was deeded to Travis County by the Covert family of Austin as a gift for use as a public park, resulting in the establishment of COVERT PARK AT MOUNT BONNELL In 1972, management of COVERT PARK AT MOUNT BONNELL was transferred to the City of Austin.

Unfortunately no one is permitted to camp or fish here, but check our park database to find each park’s amenities!

My husband and I are going to Austin from Houston over spring break next month. Is Mt. Bonnell safe to climb for pregnant women?

Hi Amanda — there are quite a few stairs to get to the top, but most include hand rails. Hope that helps!

Someone I know wanted to do a paid yoga class at mount Bonnell

Is that allowed by park rules ?

Depending on the type of reservation and permit, it may be allowed. We don’t own or operate any of the parks, so you’ll need to check in with the City of Austin’s Parks & Recreation Dept. and their special events office at 512-974-6700
