Austin Parks Foundation (APF) 2017 Fall Community Grants

We are thrilled to announce our 2017 Austin City Limits Music Festival Park Grants Program fall grantees! Our community grantees will receive almost $200,000 in collective funding to improve various Austin parks, trails, and green spaces. Recipient projects include an ADA accessible walk and bike trail, historic structure rehabilitation, ball field improvements supporting Little League games, playscape repairs, and more. Our 2017 Fall Grantees

“With 11 community groups applying for funding this fall, we had one of our most competitive grant cycles to date,” said APF’s Chief Mission Officer, Ladye Anne Wofford. “We have so many amazing people in Austin working hard to improve their local parks, and APF is grateful for the generous contributions of the ACL Music Festival which allows us to support these transformational projects.”

In total, APF is giving $200,000 in community grants for the Foundation’s fall cycle to the following parks:

  • Gracywoods Park ($42,500): Playscape repairs, water fountain, and improvements at Gracywoods Park along Northern Walnut Creek Hike and Bike trail
  • McBeth Recreation Center ($50,000): ADA accessible walk and bike trail for individuals with disabilities, which will serve the general public as well as program participants at McBeth
  • Parque Zaragoza ($50,000): Improvements to ball field to support Little League games: new safety netting and batting cage installation
  • Shipe Park ($50,000): Rehabilitation of the historic log cabin adjacent to the pool
  • Robert E Lee Tributary at Zilker Park ($7,500): Support of year 4 Grow Zone restoration efforts of the Old Little Zilker Channel

How to Apply for a Community Grant

First, APF’s Community Grants are intended for larger community-initiated physical park improvement projects that require between $5,000 and $50,000 in funding.

Furthermore, grants are awarded through a competitive process. They are offered twice a year with a grant period of 12 months. APF has given these grants since 2006 with the goal of supporting projects like signage installations, trail building and planning, and physical improvements and maintenance. The deadline for Spring 2018 Community Grant applications is April 30, 2018.
