Volunteer events coming up!

For details visit our volunteer page!

Austin Parks Foundation is taking a hands on approach to improve one of Austin's neediest parks. Recent work of the Foundation has focused on projects around the Barton Creek Greenbelt. Two important events are coming up soon to continue the important work on the greenbelt. The first, National Trails Day, will take place on June 5th, 2010. The Austin Parks Foundation is partnering with the Hill Country Conservancy and the City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department to put on the event. We are planning a variety of projects for the day centered around the Zilker Access Trailhead. We are looking for volunteers for the day. Please visit the volunteer page for more information. If you are interested in leading a project contact Charlie at cmccabe@austinparks.org. We're also looking for sponsors to help us purchase materials, drinks and snacks.

The second major event is National Public Lands Day, on September 25, 2010. This event will be devoted to removing invasive trees and habitat restoration along the Barton Greenbelt. Please visit the volunteer page for information about how you can help. Hope to see you on the trails!

About Action for Parks

Our Action for Parks program brings together the resources needed to create and sustain change in parks that are overused and under funded. Through a mix of volunteer labor, in-kind donations from local contractors, cash donations and grant dollars, APF plans to make substantial improvements.

Our current Action for Parks target includes two parks and a connecting greenbelt: Pease Park, Dawson Park, the Shoal Creek Greenbelt, and the Barton Creek Greenbelt. Park and trail users include walkers, runners, mountain bikers, families, Frisbee golfers, and dog-park patrons. Pease Park also includes a playground, volleyball court, and other amenities. The trail and the parks along it are heavily used, and really need our help!
