Ah yes, the Barton Creek Greenbelt! What could be nicer, I ask u? Well, how about NOT running into another heman being or thier dog(s) every 30 seconds? Howz bout not dodging cyclists aveaging 7 to 8 miles an hour, every 30 seconds. How about not having to dodge young women weiging 100 lbs (twenty somethings ) walking thier 80 lb pit bulls with way to long a leash, while they r texting? Quit making it so “nice” and maybe the population will thin out. I never needed “trail markers” in the 60’s/70’s. Gee it’s not like ur out in the middle of nowhere and can’t possibly find your way back to your car and “civilazation”.

It’s not the 60’s or 70’s anymore, You cant be the only one in the park. Austin’s population has increased, get over yourself.

They do not enforce the no smoking ban:( When I requested a man extinguish his cigar, he became irrate and physically assaulted me. He stole my cell phone out of my hand and threatened to throw it in the water if I take pictures or call anyone. He released it only after he threatened me further and witnesses were gathering. Dear sir, Smokey the Bear hates you.

      Pam,
So sorry to hear this! We would certainly encourage you to call APD or 911 in a situation like this, your safety is paramount. Also, because smoking in a park is punishable by city law, you can always report this behavior to APD when you see it.

Just beware of this guy. Who knows what he would have done if no one was witnessing. (APD said it was “threat with contact”)

Why does this park require dogs on leash?

Hi Monica – don’t believe you can camp here, but Do512 Family has a good list of Austin-area camping spots: http://do512family.com/2012/11/best-camping-spots-austin/

Hey Kelly – it varies throughout the summer, but there is a Facebook Group called “Does the Greenbelt Have Water” that always has an update. Hope that helps!
