Description: The Travis County East Metropolitan Park offers a wonderful mix of wild and tamed public land, beautiful in all seasons.

Park user Rachel tells us, "I walk in the park for exercise. I don’t know what the total length of all the walking paths are, but you can get a pretty good workout walking fast or jogging for half an hour and not go down the same path twice. I love the wildlife in the park; there are many varieties of birds, and I’m a birdwatcher too so that’s nice. I saw a great blue heron the last time I was in there. I’ve seen Kara-Karas, hawks of a couple types, ducks, bluebirds, cardinals, mockingbirds, finches, chickadees- the list goes on and on. If you are there near sunrise or sunset, and are very quiet, you can hear woodland critters skulking around in the brush. I’m sure there are rabbits, opossums, skunks, raccoons, and I don’t know all what else.

"As far as taking pictures, I have enjoyed the different seasons’ effects. It was really neat in the winter-starkly pretty. The wildflowers were very nice this spring. For summer, there are lots of shaded picnic areas. I think that the center area at the topmost part of the park would be a beautiful setting for an outdoor wedding. It’s full of big, beautifully shaped oak trees. I have my eye on the community pavilion too- as soon as I realized what it was going to be like, I told my husband, man, we have to have a party at that place!"
