Description: Zilker Metropolitan Park is Austin's premier park. It is located along the shores of Lady Bird Lake, with beautiful Barton Springs running through the center. From fine art to hiking trails, swimming to environmental education, this park has it all.
There are active volunteer organizations supporting many of the park's features. Friends of Barton Springs Pool is one of the newest such groups. A portion of Zilker is off-leash, see below for a map link. The Soccer Fields (Where the Austin City Limits Music Festival and the Trail of Lights takes place) will be closed from January through June of 2009 for a complete revamping including installation of automatic irrigation, field leveling and resodding with grass. The project will take 2-3 months to complete and then another 2-3 months to allow the grass to become established.
Zilker Park is home to Zilker Botanical Gardens, Austin Nature and Science Center, Barton Springs Pool, the Zilker Zephyr train ride, the Splash education center, and the Umlauf Sculpture Garden.
