Description: Auditorium Shores is often the locale for outdoor concerts, festivals and other events. Other times, it is a great open space for a game of frisbee, flying a kite or letting your dog roam freely.
The Stevie Ray Vaughan statue on the river and a great close-in view of the Austin skyline give it a unique Austin feel.
New Group Forms to Support Auditorium Shores Off Leash Area
Volunteer Bill Fraser became interested in cleaning up Auditorium Shores' off leash area and immediately made a splash. With the help of volunteers, he set out 700 orange flags marking each pile of un-collected poop in the park. Since then, Bill has adopted the park, held volunteer events, and gained a long list of supporters for Friends of Auditorium Shores. The group hopes to find ways to reduce user conflicts in the area (where runners, bicyclists, and off leash dogs are all active) and to bring about lasting physical improvements to the park.
The redevelopment plan proposed by FoAS hopes to establish a green eco-friendly infrastructure throughout the entire park, with attention given to keeping the parkland as natural an environment as possible. The plan includes elements to showcase music, the arts, community and cultural events, fitness and outdoor recreation.
