Adopt-A-Park

Is there a park near you that could use a helping hand? Adopt a local park or green space! Austin Parks Foundation's role in the Adopt-A-Park program is to help you create realistic goals, connect you with resources, and facilitate communication with the Parks Department as needed.

Why adopt a park?
Diminishing city funds and increasing demands on undeveloped spaces are leading to the deterioration of our parks. Park programs and facilities need volunteer support to raise maintenance levels and increase the quality of programming. That's what Adopt-A-Park is all about.

How to become a park adopter
If you would like to adopt a park, please give us a call at 477-1566. We'll talk with you about your goals for the park, then give you the number for your Parks and Recreation Department District Manager. You and the District Manager will meet at the park to talk over the specifics of what the park needs and how it can be accomplished. Then you will sign an informal, non-binding contract spelling out what each party will undertake over the next year.

Not sure what you want to accomplish? Here are some thoughts on what makes a successful neighborhood park. Often just a few small projects, performed by a small group of volunteers, can make a huge difference. For more ideas, take a look at the projects highlighted on our Grants web page. Ready to get started? Call us at 477-1566.
