Brush Square Park Tomorrow
The City of Austin Parks & Recreation Department, the Downtown Austin Alliance, the Friends of Brush Square, the Austin Parks Foundation and the City of Austin Art in Public Places Program are continuing to work on improvements to Brush Square.
In early March, the Friends of the O Henry Museum and Suzanna Dickinson House completed the restoration of the Suzanna Dickinson House and opened it as a museum to the public on Texas Independence Day. Additional work aroudn the grounds was performed by the Parks and Recreation Dept. The Austin Parks Foundation - through donations from South By Southwest Festivals, has paid for tree pruning and root zone rx work on the big oak located in the courtyard between the two historic houses.
In early July, work with commence on the Art in Public Places funded courtyard. This will create a functional yet unique space for visitors to enjoy and will also be available as a reservable facility for small gatherings through the City Parks department's office of special events. Two of the big oaks nearby willl recieve root zone rx treatments and will be fenced off during the construction phase, which is expected to last from July 6 to August 13th.
